<> <> (WELCOME!) <<... *checks notes* Wait, that's still coming up, okay. You were still having a bad day, though. On the way back from Jupiter to Mars, a patch of rough... universe... and the warping due to the gravity of Sol caused Lexi to lose control of the ship! That's a fairly dire predicament, I'm sure you'll agree.>> <> (So we're shaking and spiraling wildly out of control?) (Toward an anvil, I think) * Kyle is hanging on because this doesn't look good! The machinery is still a-okay though, right? (Off the chain, towards the anvil, yeah.) <> * Amadeus is hanging on to who knows what. Probably someone's chair. "Lexi! Can you get this thing under control?" he asks considerably less than calmly. * Lexi keeps trying like hell to get the ship not to hit the anvil thing. "Uh! I'm trying, but it doesn't seem to want to cooperate!" (Do we know if there is say, a way to abort the mole drive thing? Like drop out of it early?) * Kyle gets up. "Come on, someone help her get this thing under control. In the meantime, Zeke, you know a 'bit of mechanics, right? come on, we've got to make sure this boat keeps in one piece." <> <> (How big is this anvil thing?) (And how far away is it?) (Are you comming, Kyle? I'd already left.) <> (Although not to do something specific. More just to be near the back.) (You did? I don't see that.) (Does it weigh more than 100kg? =P Is my question) (Last session, I think.) (I'm guessing yes) (Ah. I didn't know that, and I didn't get a prose from him. :() (So that's out) (Lexi: Considering it represents the mass of the sun, yes.) * Hestia makes her way onto the bridge, from the map room. She looks oh so pleased about the shaking. Really. (Last session, yes.) <> <> * Kyle blinks, notices Zeke isn't there, and runs back, getting to Zeke.. "Remember those joints? They're not too happy, and we need to make sure they stay together." (*hides her mechanics skill, sits next to Amadeus in the :O seats*) 2d6+10 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Lexi (2d6+10) and gets a natural 4 for a result of 14. (Bah.) (*pokes Ard*) (I can't get food that way!) * Zeke has two large ovoid things tacked onto the back of his suit as he comes out of a hallway to the rooms. He looks to Kyle and nods slowly, saying, "Understood." (Why'm I being poked?) (I asked if you were looking over Lexi's shoulder at the controls.) * Zeke then guides himself along the walls towards the back. (Oh, I had to scroll up to see. No, not specifically at the controls, but yeah, sort of.) <> 2d6+11 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Amadeus (2d6+11) and gets a natural 7 for a result of 18. (Hey, I have a degree in SCIENCE!) <> * Kyle runs forward, counting locations, then notes one and ducks inbetween the engine room and the rest of the ship. "Right there." (Do we have tools around?) <> (OH SHIT SPELLJAMMER.) <> (*readies the cannons*) 2d6+9 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Hestia (2d6+9) and gets a natural 11 for a result of 20. * Zeke replies, "Dangerous." His insect flitters its wings as he reaches over to the hopefully handy toolbox to start playing patch. "A breach would expose you to the outside." <> * Kyle pulls out his torch and he motions, some of the metal desks from nearby flying quickly to where they are and then halting with a few motions of his hands in a jerky fashion. "Wow, that's pretty cool." * Hestia stands in the middle of the bridge, arms crossed under her chest, and she turns to look at Amadeus, then inclines her head meaningfully at the computer, raising one eyebrow inquisitively. Yeah, I wasn't expecting this much stress on the hull. * Amadeus blinks at the controls and tries to put his glasses on his nose, then says, "I think I can figure out what's going on," and he moves, sitting in Kyle's vacated seat and peering at the controls. * Zeke's bird looks over at Kyle as he replies, welding cracks together where he can, "You seem surprised." * Hestia smirks a little bit, and steps up, leaning forward over the back of Amadeus' chair. "I agree. We could do some course correcting that might keep us from exploding." A pause. "What IS 'phlogiston', anyway?" * Kyle gets to work patching things up. "Just get some braces set up to keep the hull intact." (I don't know! Does my character know?) * Tomas leans over Amadeus's shoulder "What'd you find? Anything I can help with?" Well, it's not like I've ever been in a ship with a mole drive before. And the hull looked good to me. * Zeke replies, "I meant the flying desks." (Ard: No!) I have no idea. My degree's in biology, not astrophysics. * Amadeus goes about trying to figure out what's going on anyway, as well as... er, do that course correcting Hestia mentioned if it seems like a good idea at the time. I've just never had to move large metal desks before. <> (Quick question before I seat of the pants this. Does 3E have cooperative roll rules?) (yar) (Yes.) (They work just like D&D co-op rolls.) (Each assistant rolls a stat/skill to give +2 to the main roller) (TN is 10, I think?) (10 seems unlikely.) (Looks to be the same TN) (Same TN, okay) * Lexi spends most of her time while everyone else is running around trying to keep the ship from veering towards the anvil faster. "Apparantly this Weird Piece of Junk can be bested by a weirder piece of junk, who knew?" * Zeke 's bird keeps looking around to other places as he engages in patch work. It's so skittish. <> (Yeah it seems... pretty poorly done, actually. Since on rolls you'd need people to assist with to get anywhere, you're likely to not get any assistance anyways.) (What's the roll?) (Same thing as last time?) (Same as before, yeah.) 2d6+11 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Amadeus (2d6+11) and gets 13, a CRITICAL SUCCESS!!! "A WINNER IS YOU!" (BAD DICEY) (... THAT IS NOT A CRIT YOU JERK) (BAD) (NO COOKIE) 2d6+10 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Lexi (2d6+10) and gets a natural 6 for a result of 16. (Such a tease) (Hey! Made it that time!) (Meanwhile Tomas is caught in the Rogue's Dilemma. Uh, TOMAS, YOUR KITCHEN IS ... IN DIRE NEED OF ... SALTING?) (It's like the ROgue's dilemma, if rogues didn't do anything useful.) (I just looked, I have a spec in chemistry!) <> <> (I serve an important function.) * Amadeus grumbles, "I know what I need to do but I can't *do* it." And he keeps trying, but it's not like he ever pilots anything ever. Maybe this is why. * Kyle throws another piece in and welds it tight. "Your bird looks pretty animated. I'm surprised it hasn't flown off yet." 2d6 + 6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Tomas (2d6 + 6) and gets a natural 9 for a result of 9. (Don't seperate the + out.) (This isn't Java.) (Yeah, no spaces) (So you got a 15.) * Zeke replies, over sparks, "It knows better. There is not enough space to fly." (damn checkstyle. What do I win?) (A puppy.) * Hestia continues to lean on the back of Amadeus' chair. "At least they're managing to keep the hull in one piece. How, I don't know. Welding random furniture to it, maybe." <> <> (Probably mechanics) (Mechanics is Mind, sometimes body) (And mechanics skill) (I'd say average but you're using Mind Bullets, so. Mind.) (I'm using a welding torch!) * Lexi grits her teeth as she manages to smooth things out some. "Hey! This isn't so bad." She chuckles some and presses the intercom button with one of her free TK hands. "Hey, how are things going down there, Kyle?" (It doesn't matter, my mind and body are the same.) (My mind is (currently) better. :D) (Leech.) 2d6+9 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Zeke (2d6+9) and gets a natural 9 for a result of 18. (Wheeish on whatever.) 2d6+11 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyle (2d6+11) and gets a natural 7 for a result of 18. <> * Tomas hrms and squints his eyes a little, "It's definitely math, but that's all I can get out of it ight now." It's not that cramped. * Kyle bumps his head. "Ow! Okay, maybe it is." <> * Zeke 's bird flicks its wings back at Kyle in response. 2d6+6 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Tomas (2d6+6) and gets a natural 7 for a result of 13. 2d6+11 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Amadeus (2d6+11) and gets a natural 5 for a result of 16. (Better.) (so an additional +2, Lexi) * Kyle calls back up with the com. "Pretty good, we've got it welded up nicely. Tension seems to be going down. Do you have this crate under control yet?" * Amadeus has his tongue peeking out of the corner of his mouth, and he maths the ship into a more stable, at least, position. * Hestia tries not to laugh at the word 'welded'. She almost succeeds. 2d6+12 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Lexi (2d6+12) and gets a natural 6 for a result of 18. (Made that) Sounds like they did go for random furniture. (WELD ISN'T FUNNY.) * Kyle goes over the com. "Oh, we might need to get you a new desk, Lexi." * Hestia just turns and looks at Amadeus. <> * Amadeus lets out a sigh of relief, then looks to Hestia and grins. * Hestia smirks, then steps back and stretches. "Crisis averted. Remind me to punch our boss in the face when we get back." * Lexi shrugs and stretches her real hands into the air while her TK ones do the work. She finally answers Kyle. "Yeah. We're fine. And what about my desk?" (I didn't even know she had a desk! Bonus!) * Tomas leans back, "That was a close one. I thought I heard somebody say this wreck was actually spaceworthy." * Kyle calls over. "It's currently keeping us from being crushed by a compromise in hull integrity." I think Tia's taking care of that, actually. <> * Amadeus rubs at his face, pushing his glasses up. "How about we call the rest of it short and take this back in to get it fixed for real?" * Hestia raises an eyebrow. "We'll see. I'm bothered by that word 'phlogiston'. Not knowing what it means is gnawing at me." She pauses a second, with a little glassy-eyed look, before turning her head elsewhere. We can look that up, too. After you punch Mr. Charles in the face. * Lexi shrugs. "Eh... Whatever you guys want. I'm game for anything." (I don't remember the answer. Is there a way to contact mars from out in space?) (Radio!) (The emergency molemessengerpod) (Other than that) * Hestia makes a 'huh' noise in the back of her throat. "Phlogiston: a name for the various forces that produce eddies and currents in nullspace." (Radio is fine, there's just lag.) * Amadeus blinks, and he looks to Hestia. "How did you get that?" * Hestia smiles. "Oh, I pick up things, here and there. Just had to wrack my brain." Huh. Sounds useful. * Hestia nods. "Extremely. You know," she adds, waving a hand at the console, "we should check in with Mars." * Kyle gets back to the bridge. "Probably. I don't know how well that'll hold up if we hit anything more intense." * Hestia raises an eyebrow. "You welded a desk to the hull. I wouldn't even test that in atmosphere, let alone space." * Lexi nods. "I agree." She radios the base on Mars. "Hey, this is Lexi Calhoun aboard the Weird Piece. We ran into some sort of debris while in the mole drive and uh we're currently being held together with a desk. Do you want us to return to base or continue?" * Zeke tromps up after him, having kept the two add-on ovoid things on his suit. "The hull maintains integrity anyway." * Kyle snickers. A desk, she says. (when you say "the base" are you referring to the docking place, or the comms address Preston gave you?) (I'm not sure the first would know the answer.) (Yeah. we'll say Preston. =P) (Since he sent us out) (AFK a tiny bit to throw some water on my face) (Sorry. Sudden intestinal distress.) <> "Ahoy the Weird Piece... debris? Can you elaborate?" * Kyle looks to the knowitalls. * Hestia clears her throat. "It was 'phlogiston'." You can hear the quotes. <> "Did you run afoul of a bad current?" You could say that. and an anvil. A big anvil. * Lexi nods. "Yeah uh... it was big and very hard to avoid. But we came out of it in one piece. Well mostly." Anyway, do you want us to return? We want to return. The hull's nearly in pieces. <> "The anvil, or whatever heavy weight it shows up as this week, represents the sun. But the phlogiston in-system is supposed to be calm as water this week, or so our forecasters assured us. I'll have to have quite a severe word with them, believe you me. And of course you should return, there's no way I'd risk you or your ship in these circumstances. It appears I'll have to have a strong word with the refitters, as well." How reassuring. * Kyle nods. * Lexi nods. "Alright in that case we should prepare for landing." She turns the ship towards Mars and begins to head toward the planet. * Hestia chews that over in her head. "Wait. Are you saying if we *hadn't* avoided that we'd have flown into the proverbial and/or literal sun?" (DEATH TO THE DAYSTAR \>o "Eventually, yes, though you likely had more time than it seemed like. It's usually no issue, and Sol's gravity's not nearly enough to drag you from the chain if it's calm. But if the waters were choppy..." <> "Take the ship back to the docking building, and take the rest of the day off. Drinks are on me. I have some people to fire. Preston out." * Lexi turns off the radio comm and guides the ship towards mars. "Prepare for entering the atmosphere I guess!" <> (If you guys want to RP the post-flight drinks we can, or if you'd rather just skip ahead to some more meaty content we can do that too.) (I have no strong feelings either way) (I can't get drunk. :() (I like meat.) (.... so that's one no, one yes, one don't care?) (Zeke doesn't really do a good job of getting drunk either! Or talking. So he probably wants meat.) (Meat for the Meat God!) (I am for skipping to the plot.) (wait, I misread. okay, give me a sec.) <> 2d6+9 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Zeke (2d6+9) and gets a natural 8 for a result of 17. (Which stat base?) (If only it were micro.) (What's the unfamiliar penalty? -3?) (Mind.) 2d6+10 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Hestia (2d6+10) and gets a natural 11 for a result of 21. (I build us a new, better ship!) (With gold! And diamonds!) (Looks like I should just leave this to the pros) 2d6+11 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyle (2d6+11) and gets a natural 5 for a result of 16. (Lexi doesn't know how to fix things. She has people for that. You people! At the moment) <> (Symmetry is so overrated.) (Symmetry means uniform hull stress instead of explosive decompression.) (As long as you let me use your hands, I'm not arguing. :D) <> (I actually will; I want to know how that works.) (I'm in. <> <> (Hahaha.) <> (Perhaps both.) (SCIENCE! I'd totally go drinking with Lexi given the opportunity.) (Welded her name onto the ship drunkenly.) (I haxed the real chainjumper forums long ago!) (HAX) (I have no hax.) <> (You know what you doing when you move every piece.) (Okay. We just continuing our previous mission?) (Yup. Mars to Indi Epsilon.) (Did we get some new furniture?) * Lexi gets back into the pilot's seat. "We all ready to give this a try with you know... less flying into the sun?" <> (Unfortunately, it's made of scrap metal.) (It's the particle board of metal.) (It IS DunnoFurniture.) (What is it?) (DUNNO) (XD) * Zeke replies, "As long as it is not another star instead." His holoface's spiked hair now has green tips, as opposed to be solid black. Apparently, a week or so is enough time to drop the half professional look. Fuck yeah! Let's do this! * Hestia decides to talk to you from the map room! Where she is indeed charting phlogiston currents as she was instructed in doing. "I'm for not flying into any stars." * Amadeus is also in the map room, since that charting was all he was good for last time. "Ditto. Ready to go otherwise." * Kyle takes his seat and brings up the console. * Tomas takes the seat next to Lexi, "Less anvil this time, I think" * Lexi nods. "Alright then." She opens up the communications with the docking people. "This is the Weird Piece requesting permission to take off, explore strange new lands, go into the great unknown, and get really really drunk." She grins. I wonder if we can set up a bar along the way. <> "Just don't fly into the building when you're stumbling back, Weird Piece. Hitching Post out." * Zeke looks to Kyle and replies, "A quick change in profession." * Hestia smirks, letting her finger drift across the controls of the Death Star-style map display she is insisting the ship have. "Flight controllers don't have enough to do with their free time." Hey, I know how to handle a bar. Runs in the family. (Take her up and out when you're ready, Lexi.) * Lexi pulls the ship up out of the docking bay and flies it back out into space at top speed, because hey, it's more fun that way. <> (SEAKING. FUCK YEAH!) "Preston Charles to Weird Piece. Forecast looks good, enjoy the ride. Have a beer for me when you get there." Yes sir! * Hestia glances at Amadeus. "Isn't it cute how he uses words like 'beer'?" <> * Lexi answers it. "I'll have two. Thanks Preston. See you when we get back!" She smiles and punches in the coordinates. "You guys ready?" 2d6+8 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Hestia (2d6+8) and gets a natural 10 for a result of 18. 2d6+11 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Amadeus (2d6+11) and gets a natural 7 for a result of 18. (WHARRGARBL) (*hi-five*) * Kyle checks over the systems, making sure all are go, and gives the thumbs up. "All green." <> * Amadeus coms to Lexi, "It looks good from down here." * Hestia nods, keying in course information. Amadeus already said! * Tomas leans back in the copilot's chair and nods approvingly at whatever Lexi is doing <> * Kyle listens. Papa loves mambo... Mama loves mambo... o/` * Lexi uses her TK hands to guide the ship and looks back over towards the crew. "Well this is no where near as exciting as the last time." (Now it's in my head NOOOOO) (DR. TRAN) <> I'm sure it'll get more exciting as we go further out. (You know what, TN 10.) (He's a real doctor. Not only is a real doctor, he's a dashing secret agent with a PhD in KICKING YOUR ASS.) 2d6+10 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Lexi (2d6+10) and gets a natural 9 for a result of 19. (We should get a board game. What are popular board games nowadays? Anything new? Or do we just have the smart people all play three dimensional space chess?) (i would know this why?) (Could get a dart board) (Yeah, although given most of us grew up with TVNet, there's probably some sort of video entertainment around too.) <> (Are we actually supposed to land?) (I don't recall) (Lemme finish :( ) (Pretty sure we gotta to read the plaque!) (Oh. Alright) (If you want to be that way) <> "Epsilon Indi outpost to ship in orbit, what's your designation?" (He's asking for the name?) (Or where we came from?) (Name, serial number, measurements.) (a/s/l?) (The name.) * Lexi opens up their comm system. "This is the Weird Piece. We're on a survey mission from mars. I'm the pilot Lexi Calhoun." "Good to hear from you, Weird Piece. We were expecting you a few days ago, what happened?" The sun got in our way. * Hestia says, far more dry than is necessary, "We almost flew a lemon into the Sun." "... fair enough. Welcome to the frontier, Weird Piece. Come on down for a drink." * Lexi grins. "Gladly! On our way down." She heads towards the planet and prepares to land. (I think I'd like to cut here, if that's okay with people.) (Absolutely yes.) (Sure) (ok) (Same.) (Yup!) <>
