<> <> <> <> <> * Amadeus is waiting for the bodyslide bowl thing, sure! He's looking much like he's done previously, and his eyes flick to the side once in a while: a sure sign of headputerness. * Hestia is certainly here. Why? It was her freakin' idea. You'd think she'd change out of her normal, space exploring outfit to go to Sleythin but no, there she is, waiting in line and looking annoyed at probably needing to declare her gun, though apparently not annoyed enough to not BRING the gun. (Ha.) * Kyle is there too. He doesn't have much of a reason, beyond 'Sleythin? Haven't been there yet, this'll make a great blog entry!' He's not dressed in anything fancy, but is constantly accessing his headputer as well, occassionally glancing around at other people too. <> "Pleasebeawareallfirearmsexplosivesanddeadlycybermustbedeclaredbeforeentry. Anyonewithpsychicpowersmayexperienceheadachesasaresultofthetransition. Pleasebeawarestomachupsetisanaturalsideeffectofthetransition. Thankyou." <> * Amadeus glances around, too, and ignores the speech. He's only heard it about sixty-two times thus far (one hundred and they might explode!). He adjusts his glasses. "I'm surprised more of us didn't decide to take this trip," he comments. "I guess it's not exciting enough." )A,adeisToa" (....) (?) (...I don't even know WHAT that was.) (I started the bodyslide early apparently.) * Hestia shrugs her shoulders. "I'm not exactly looking forward to spending time on Sleythin. They're kinda... dull as a people. Bu, I think we should have this stuff." <> * Amadeus nods. Surprising nobody else seems to. It's a logical first step. <> * Hestia glances behind her, half expecting to find the person she's talking about as she talks. "I'm surprised Zeke didn't come, though. Seems like an excursion to Sleythin would be right up his alley... maybe he's just gone before." (Give me a moment.) (Retcon, then.) (Sure, I'll hold until you get your moment. ;P) * Amadeus snerks. "Yeah, he could've." It must have been *really* boring, then. Zeke doesn't seem one for excitement. (My life is very exciting. Let me show you the different lengths of wire I used to build my suit.) * Hestia half-turns to Amadeus, raising an eyebrow. "Really? What tipped you off? For me it was the monotone and the lack of contractions." (Hey! He uses contractions. Sometimes.) * Amadeus laughs. "The monotone. He's more monotone than the worst lectures I've attended combined." * Kyle seems to be looking over the crowd, occassionally concentrating on a person once in a while. He's more just nodding to your conversation. (Am I going to be hassled by customs or should I just pose it in passing?) <> * Hestia shrugs as she turns around. Apparently the group is passing the customs desk! Tia's sigh is long-suffering as she undoes the strap on her holster and holds up the gun to the agent. "See this? I do declare, it is a gun." She doesn't hand it over, though she does look for a pad to either print owner info, or fill out a form. <> * Amadeus covers a laugh. * Kyle smiles a little and takes on some other subtle features. Notably his skin gets a tad darker, like a very very light tan, and his hands appear to get a little longer. * Hestia fills out the right forms and re-holsters the gun. Perhaps fortunately for all involved, this means she misses Kyle's little transformation, though he does get a raised eyebrow when Tia turns around. * Kyle shrugs. "It just happens." * Amadeus blinks at Kyle. "'Just happens'? That your SCA mutation? Oh." He turns to the customs guy. "Nothing to declare, really." <> Nothin' here. And yeah. * Kyle smirks. "Well, that and I can read other mutations. Like yours." * Amadeus blinks, then grins. "Now *that* is unusual." Do you know how it works, or did you never have it checked out? * Hestia is so good at controlling her reactions to shit, which is to say she looks at Kyle and her eyes narrow perceptibly before she turns and walks to the bowl. * Amadeus moves along. * Kyle scratches his head. "Not really, I think it has somethin' to do with protiens and stuff. Those creatures we ran into earlier gave me a real headache if I tried to read them." Probably 'cuz they were part metal. * Amadeus nods. < I got no clue what Zeke is, though. His suit is just a giant wall. * Amadeus goes and stands in the bowl or wherever he's told to. * Kyle follows the directions. He must have a good reason for the suit. Some SCA mutations are a danger to everyone. (He's Captain Atom!) (He could be, omg!) * Hestia stands in the bowl as well, crossing her arms over her chest and looking back and out toward the door. "Oh, there's a thought I hadn't had. Someone cracks that suit and we go up in a nuclear explosion." Her lips curl into a grim smile. "Mysteries are fun." Tell me about it. One of my sisters can reconstruct organs and stuff. She really freaked a bio teacher out when she re-constructed a frog's heart. Out of the frog. (I really should say 'under'. I doubt Tia's got her arms OVER her boobs, that's probably painful.) (Since she's based on Venus the truly absurd.) <> * Kyle wobbles. "Woah man, that's some ride." * Amadeus stands there. He looks kind of sick. * Hestia is gritting her teeth, but appears to be a hardy traveller. Or has done this before. <> * Kyle hasn't! But he's known for trying new stuff. (Idle one sec, that is my food outside, I think) I mean, prof, if you wanna try and figure it out you can, but I bet it'll make as much sense as all the telepathy and telekinesis stuff. * Amadeus presses a hand to his stomach and clears his throat, then tries walking again. Once he finds he can without throwing up, he says, "I've actually been working on making sense of telepathy and telekinesis." It's not my main focus, but I did some research on the subject. * Hestia steps off the bowl and looks around. She's about to keep walking when Amadeus says that, and she turns around to eye the professor carefully. "Really." * Kyle looks around at touristy things to do, after a few minutes of holding onto something and making sure his lunch doesn't come up. * Kyle eyes Hestia back. "You like eye'n people, don't ya?" (Eyein' people. With your eyes.) * Amadeus removes his glasses, rubs his eyes, and puts them on again. Ugh. "Uh, yeah. If you're interested, I, uh... can get them to you." (I'm assuming it's like squinty-eyes) (=_=) They were pretty well received. * Hestia lets her fingers flex a little bit, and indeed her eyes narrow. "I can use other body parts, if you like." Dude, chillax. Nobody's attackin' you, seriously. (*sits back down with some Laphroaig* Thank god for alcohol.) * Hestia says nothing for a moment, then inclines her head at Amadeus. "I would, actually. Something to do while the party girl is going nuts at the controls." * Amadeus nods, and he smiles, apparently oblivious to the tension between Hestia and Kyle. "I was surprised essentially no research had been conducted on the subject before. Psychics were a thing of myth until recently, and now we accept them as commonplace without understanding what makes a psychic, well, psychic." <> "Here you go, folks, your personal gravity tags. These will let the city gravity systems adjust to keep you at your desired g-force! So you can get a great workout if you want, or relax at half Earth's gravity!" <> (None of you know sleythin well, right?) That's dangerous, of course. The first step to helping psychics - and anyone with an SCA mutation - control their abilities would be understanding them. (I do not! I am not a linguist.) (This Sleythin knows how to grooooove.) (How to get funky.) Seriously. It's totally weird. I asked Violet about it and she was all 'Oh that? Yeah, I totally just look at electric pulses and stuff' and I was like... Well, that' that's pretty cool. (I meant more, if you don't know the species well, you have no idea what gender this Sleythin is.) * Hestia takes the tag and, because she isn't a COMPLETE bitch, says: "[Thanks]." (Only common language I don't have.) [You are very welcome! You speak Sleythin well!] * Amadeus takes a tag, thanking the guy in Marsal and using it (however one uses said tag?). "Electric pulses? That's interesting. Really, I think the scientific community has a lot to answer for regarding the collective lack of knowledge when it comes to our mutations." * Kyle takes a tag. "Thanks." (Oh shit you got Amadeus started.) They don't even have a decent categorization system! I hope mine takes. (They did! HAHAHAHA I'ma talking forever okay.) <> Yeah, she said it was like lookin' through completely different spectrum or sometin'. Were you workin' on that back in the university a few years back? (Oh yeah, I know. I totally STARTED him a few times in class. :D) I could see it. It would be like a more extreme version of my- hm? Yes. Did I tell you about that? * Hestia goes for 1G, because she isn't a masochist. She can walk while the others converse! <> (You mean they're rushing towards the camera?) (*pushes Mecha out a window*) * Kyle laughs and walks while conversing. He doesn't mess with his tag, if much at all. "Yeah, you ranted about it a few times back then. What'd you end up deciding for the categorization? I have a lot of people in my family, so they'll be interested if it takes." * Amadeus rubs at the back of his neck. "Well, as you know, the difficulty is the sheer variety of mutations the Borenstein gene creates." (Enh, mini's over, I'm getting too much enjoyment at watching Amadeus lecture about _entirely fake science I made up_. We'll do that for three hours!) * Hestia looks at the buildings for a moment or two, then turns back to Amadeus. "I don't mean to interrupt, but... do you happen to have academic contacts on this planet?" (I can do that. :D) Which is probably one reason they've stuck with 'major' and 'minor'. But what does major and minor *mean*, exactly? My- oh, uh... no. I could contact the head of the department and she'd know, but I don't want to trouble her if I can avoid it. HellifIknow. And yeah, we probably should get seeing about what you guys came here to check out. <> * Kyle takes a few pictures as well, and a picture of himself in front of some Sleythin buildings to show that he was, in fact, here. Hn... well, at least we can hold it in reserve. * Hestia turns around to poke at the console. * Amadeus nods and stands by in reserve as Hestia uses the console. <> * Kyle checks out the console. <> * Hestia starts looking for universities or science museums, because she's seen 'Halfway to Europa'. But! She can talk while she does it. "Well, this is a start, at least. Maybe they'll have a nice gift shop and we can be home in time for dinner." <> * Hestia asks Clippy to help her write a Sleythin science project! Which is to say she starts off toward the museum! * Amadeus tags along. "As good a place to start as any," he comments. * Kyle heads along with the rest of the crew. < ies makeup at the respective locations, the tactic seems to be working.>> * Amadeus squints at the flashy, even if it's not literally flashing. "Ugh." * Hestia raises an eyebrow. "That's... a distinctly un-sleythin-like vibe." <> ...that said, this is a positive sign. * Amadeus nods in agreement and goes to check it out. * Kyle goes to check it out too. <> I dunno, someone'd think that this'd be a bigger topic among chain jumpers, right? * Hestia nods once. "Oh yes, I know there's got to be SOME reason this hasn't been done yet that we know of." <> * Amadeus stands in line. He refrains from comment about the tourists. Or it's been done and it's pointless. <> (Mind rolls!) * Hestia watches carefully as she goes, though she seems a little... distressed at the It's A Small Universe After All-ness of the exhibit. "Well, this is promising. But you know..." She turns to the side and raises an eyebrow at a holo zooming in and showing planet data on something already in GalReg. "The more I see the more suspicious I am that something's awry." 2d6+7 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Hestia (2d6+7) and gets a natural 5 for a result of 12. 2d6+8 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Kyle (2d6+8) and gets a natural 10 for a result of 18. (Jesus christ.) 2d6+8 * Dicesuke throws the bones for Amadeus (2d6+8) and gets a natural 7 for a result of 15. (I found my sheet!) (Awwright!) * Amadeus nods, watching and succeeding at not falling asleep (probably). I see what you mean, but it is for... public consumption. <> * Amadeus frowns. "Well, we weren't expecting on getting all of the information we wanted in this exhibit anyway." * Hestia nods once, looking at the map. "No. The kid is right, anyway..." she says, turning around. "This isn't here for the lizards, it's for tourists. They'd want to make humans feel good, wouldn't they..." Yeah, but there's no actual information on the Sleythin Planetary Codex beyond 'Yeah, it agrees with these few findings.' But what about findings it doesn't agree with, or stuff like that? It's not totally useless, though. We have a name, of sorts. * Amadeus nods. * Hestia makes a 'mmm' sound in the back of her throat, and then starts for the exit. "The question is, how best to get a copy of this 'codex'..." * Amadeus walks along. "Well." <> We can go to information and ask if we can have a copy. Or how to acquire- * Amadeus is cut off by Sleything bowling, as it were. * Kyle manages to hold himself up after getting pushed out of the way. "Hey man, what's the hurry?" <> [OOF! I'm sorry, I... wait...] <> "... you're Terran. I- I mean, human." * Hestia turns around at the noise, and the sound of someone speaking in Sleythin, and raises an eyebrow at the tableau. <> * Kyle smiles. "From Red Vladistok, actually. You look surprised for us to be here." "I am ... terrified... no, shocked! Shocked you are not hurt." <> "You are not hurt?" * Amadeus grins, too. * Hestia watches Shorya'nartha carefully, because sleythin don't appear to have a poker face. Oh no no no, I'm fine. Not all humans are super frail, you know. * Hestia adds, in far too dry a tone, "Yes. Only a few." As in, most of us. Comparatively. But yeah, if I was someone else that might have hurt quite a bit. <> "This is good! I am pleased." <> "You have seen ... the exhibit?" * Amadeus nods. "It was very, uh... touristy?" It wasn't bad, but we were looking for more information. * Kyle nods. Specifically, the codex itself. <> "Then you liked it, truly? Oh, then I must... expand it!" <> "But they have said it is not possible." Why is that? * Kyle looks around. "I bet there's enough room, so there's something else missing?" "I am told... it is too dangerous. But I am not told why." <> "But... you ... oh, I am saying too much!" <> * Hestia tilts her head, putting a hand under her chin. "Too dangerous for Terrans to have the information, you mean?" she says, being very deliberate in her word choice. "Or are they afraid one of the displays will reach out and eat someone?" <> "Who are you, that you ask for the Codex?" (The avatar.) (I got all 8 virtues up and everything.) * Amadeus looks to Tia, letting her handle this for now. (Awesome!) * Hestia grins, and keeps her casual, but I-am-far-too-good-for-you stance she uses when dealing with male clients that think with their dick. It's amazing how well it can work on other people. "We're... chainjumpers." <> "Truly?" (Sweeet) Truly. <> "But then you are in danger!" (Oh you don't get off that easy.) (What did she say.) (Hahaha. Owned.) (Hahaha.) (Dammit. Make me find words to match stuff spoken for effect. She says "FUCK YOU TIA", that's what she says...) (XD) (Sleythin hot for Tia!) (Anyhow Tia speaks the language, it's relevant.) (I know. I forgot. Uh, roughly translated it's [Rhilyzn'sihr guide us.]) * Hestia can't help but raise *both* eyebrows at that. She then manages to vocalize a "..." It's a given that chainjumping is dangerous. That's why we want to see the codex. "But that is *more* dangerous!" (Well played, Hakasei.) * Hestia raises an eyebrow. "Why is having the additional knowledge MORE dangerous? And who is..." She stumbles here, but tries her best to pronounce, "Rhilyzn'sihr?" <> [You speak Sleythin? Oh thank the gods, this is so much easier in this tongue. Rhilyzn'sihr is the god of conflict. They didn't tell me why it was so dangerous for the humans to have the Codex, but they assured me that it might be the destruction of everything your species has accomplished up till now! They even talked of having to abandon our city... again.] * Hestia stares blankly at this woman. Lizard. Lizard woman. Are you serious? * Amadeus also stares blankly, mostly because he has no idea what they're talking about. (That was all pretty fast Sleythin, too.) * Kyle stares blankly for much the same reason Amadeus does. [I'm serious! I don't know if they were lying or not but they got all sorts of ministers to come in and tell me!] (*finishes buttering up a plot muffin and hands it to Todd. Here you go!*) * Hestia looks a little distressed here, really. "For the sake of my co-workers, who don't speak the language... you're saying your higher ups, whoever they are, not only don't want us to have the Codex but are fairly sure we're going to bring about *the end of galactic civilization*?" Dude. That wouldn't be cool. All my stuff kinda needs galactic civilization. "Um... I think the word is ... 'maybe'." * Amadeus suddenly looks quite frustrated. "Of course it's a 'maybe'. It's always a 'maybe'!" ( "MAYBE it won't work! MAYBE I'm mad! MAYBE I'll unleash a zombie horde when I resurrect these corpses! IT'S ALL POSSIBILITIES!") * Hestia turns and glances at Amadeus with curiosity for a moment, then back at the Sleythin researcher. "Can I take that to mean that any request we'd make for the codex would be laughed off at best?" * Kyle thinks to himself. .oO(Oh man, the prof's gonna be fuming about this for hours after we're out of earshot.) (IT IS!) <> "... maybe? I can try to convince them... you are real chainjumpers, yes?" (I'm reminded of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILObfEzX92k) As real as they get. "I do not know if they think that's okay." * Hestia shrugs. "You can take it up with the Galactic Registry, if you like." * Amadeus nods. "If you need our names, I'm Amadeus Cheung." Are we the first jumpers who have come seeking the information? <> "No... others came, looked at the exhibit and left. I did not talk to them. I don't know if they looked elsewhere." Huh. If any did come seriously looking for more info, they would have looked more into it than this. (Ugh, sorry.) * Hestia looks off to the side thoughtfully. "I agree. I don't think people would have just given up. So the question is," she adds, turning back to the researcher, "who do we ask for access?" A slight, sardonic smile quirks her lips. "So we can get out of your, uh... scales." * Amadeus chuckles. * Kyle smirks. (... they don't have scales! :( ) (Frill!) <> "I will do this, if ... if you tell me one thing." (I know they don't, but if I'd said hair she'd blink and if I'd said crest she'd think I was hitting on her.) * Hestia seems to find this acceptable. "And that is...?" <> [Tell me the password to the chainjumper BBS!] * Hestia does not facefault. She really wants to. She really, really does. * Amadeus has no idea what's going on! * Hestia seems to consider that for a moment, then laughs and holds out her hand. [Give me a datapad.] * Kyle quirks an eyebrow. (Going to enjoy keeping these two in the dark about the 'cost' forEVer) <> "You really will do it?" * Amadeus looks at the pair curiously. * Hestia takes it, and starts typing in a notefile with the information requested. For the sake of amusement, she wears a very serious mien. "Yes, but it's very sensitive information. I'm going to be in quite a lot of trouble if people found out... so, tit for tat, I suppose." She hands the thing back. <> "I cannot believe it!" <> "I will... try hard to do what I can. Give me your contact information." * Hestia produces whatever is used as a business card in the red future. The contact info is viable even with the 'new job' and all. "I'll be looking forward to hearing from you." <> [Curses!] "My ... superior comes. Quickly, you must go!" * Amadeus nods. "What's your name, by the way?" (She already mentioned it!) <> "I am Shorya'nartha. Now please, before he sees!" * Kyle looks around. "Hey Hestia, there's that exhibit about Sleythin tables you were looking for. Thanks for your help, um... Shorya'nartha. This museum is facinating. *almost-drags Hestia and Amadeus off.* * Kyle continues to try his best impersination of an 'ignorant but well-meaning martian tourist.' * Hestia turns and waves at Shorya'nartha. "It's a lovely exhibit. Keep up the good work." And then she follows Kyle, who is very convincing, let me tell you. * Amadeus nods and gets going, sure! <> * Kyle continues for a few minutes until he's sure Shorya's superior is out of earshot. "That went well, I take it?" * Hestia runs a hand through her hair, the other one resting on her hip. She's drumming her fingers. "We'll see when she gets back to me. What worries me more is why we couldn't just get a copy of the data in the first place." There could be multiple versions. Maybe there's some already-noted inaccuracies between what has been found and what they discovered. Ya know, breaking faith in a bunch of the Sleythin ideals or somethin'. (Public knowledge that sleythin extrasolar research was ZOMG long time ago?) (*thumbs up*) * Hestia shrugs. "The surveys they did were a very, very long time ago. Everyone knows that. Of course over time the data would be a little different..." * Amadeus nods. "But it shouldn't be so bad that it wouldn't be useful." Totally. I mean, planets don't change orbits or that stuff in hundereds of thousands of years. Unless somethin' big happened. That's what worries me. * Hestia shrugs a little. "And them, apparently." Yup. * Hestia glances around the lobby of the museum. "Well, we're not going to learn anything else staying here... no reason not to head back to Mars." I agree. <>
